The Holiday Lighting in Central Park takes place today from 4:00PM-5:30PM, at the Charles A Dana Discovery Center.  There will be holiday craft making, refreshments, photos with Santa, (bring your own camera) a four foot ice sculpture and a 12 foot floating Christmas Tree on the Harlem Meer.  There will also be Caroling by Tommy Coil as well as an acapella group  from Columbia University called the Metrotones.  The event is Free.  The Charles A Dana Discovery Center is located inside the park at 110th Street, between Lenox and Fifth Avenues, Manhattan, NY.

The Merchant's House Museum will host, In The Spirit: Modern 
Photographers Chanel The 19th Century, today and every day
during regular operating hours, through 11/28/11.  19th century "Spirit Photographs" by Thomas Harris and the Burns Archive,  said to show evidence of the existence of spirits, will be on display.  Also on display, will be photographs by modern mediums, such as Sally Mann, John Dugdale, Hal Hirshorn and RA Friedman.  Admission to the Museum is $10.00 General and $5.00 for Students and Seniors.  Children under 12 are Free.  Guided Tours of the museum take place every Monday, Thursday and Friday at 2:00PM. The Conference House is open for guided tours, today and every Friday-Sunday from 1:00PM-4:00PM, through 12/15/11.  It is the site of the only attempted peace conference during the Revolutionary War.  The house is filled with interesting artifacts and lots of history.  Conference House Park, where the building is located, is at the southernmost point of NYC and State.  The tour is $3.00 for Adults and $2.00 for Children.  There is parking available in the visitors center lot, at the end of Hylan Boulevard.  The Conference House is located at 298 Satterlee Street, Staten Island, NY.  Click on the above link for directions and map.


Grow NYC will host a Halloween Costume Swap, as well as other

The Puppetry Arts Haunted Halloween Festival will take place today, from 11:00AM-4:00PM, at the first street recreation center of P.S 372.  There will be musical Performances, a haunted house, costume contests, raffles and more.   The first 200 kids will get a trick or treat bag, full of prizes. Admission is Free.  It is an indoor event and takes place rain or shine.  The first Street recreation center of P.S 372 is located at 1st Street, between 3rd and 4th Avenue, Brooklyn, NY.

 The Victor Hanson Recreation Center will host a Film Screening from the Emmy Award Winning PBS Series, Independent Lens, today at 10:00AM.  The film, "Deaf Jam", by Judy Lieff, is about a deaf teen who discovers the power of American Sign Language Poetry and prepares to be one of the first deaf poets to compete in a youth Slam.  The film screening is Free.  The Victor Hanson Recreation Center is located in Rochdale Park, at 133-39 Guy Brewer Boulevard, Queens, NY.


 The Society Of Illustrators offers Free Admission to the museum during regular operating hours, with the exception of openings, special events, and classes.  There are only four days left to see the exhibit, Rolling Stone And The Art Of The Record Review. The exhibit consists of over 80 original illustrations that were commissioned for the Rolling Stone Magazine, record review column.  The exhibit closes on 10/22/11.  The Ted Lewin Light Show is another exhibit currently on display at the museum.  The illustrations in this exhibit capture various types of lighting, from neon lights to sunlight and firelight.  The exhibit closes on 10/29/11.  Making Faces, an exhibit featuring portrait illustrations, will be on display through 11/23/11.  Coming to the museum on 10/26/11, is the exhibit The Original Art 2011,  which celebrates the art of Children's Book Illustration.  In addition, the museum has a Permanent Exhibit, consisting of almost 2000 works by some of the greatest names in American Illustration.  The Society Of Illustrators is open on Tuesdays from 10:00AM-8:00PM, Wednesdays -Fridays from 10:00AM-5:00PM and Saturday from 12:00PM-4:00PM.  The Society Of Illustrators is located at 128 East 63rd Street, (between Park and Lexington Avenues), Manhattan, NY.
