Bring your dog to Prospect Park today and the first Saturday of Every month, (except holidays) from 7:00AM-9:00PM, for the Coffee Bark.  Meet and mingle with other dog owners.  Free Goodies will be given to dogs and their owners.  Information will also be given to dog owners regarding off-leash activities and issues.  The event is Free and meets in the meadow at the Picnic house.  Enter the park at 3rd Street and Prospect Park West, Brooklyn, NY.

Westerleigh Park will host the 6th Annual Soap Box Derby, today from 10:00AM-3:00PM.  This is a Free event for children to participate in.  To Participate, the car you've built must have brakes and all participants must wear helmets.  The race will be down Springfield Avenue, Staten Island, NY.  Trophies will be awarded in various categories.  Registration will start at 10:00AM and races will begin at 11:00AM.  In addition to the races, there will be a collection of antique cars on display.  Free parking is available.  Westerleigh Park is located at Willard, Springfield, Main and Neal Dow Avenues, Staten Island, NY.

Take a Page Avenue Beach Tour today,  from 12:00PM-2:00PM, with naturalists from the Staten Island organization, Protectors Of Pine Oak Woods.  The walk will begin with a look at the local geology of the area.  A variety of  small wildlife such as snails, crabs, clams, oysters worms and small fish will probably be viewed.  The walk will be muddy so appropriate clothing is advised.  The Tour meets at the parking lot at Page Avenue, below Hylan Boulevard.  For more information, click on the above link and call the number listed.

 The Czech Festival & Staropramen Party  will take place today beginning at 1:00PM, on 73rd Street, between 1st and 2nd Avenues, Manhattan, NY.  The festival and Party are a celebration of Czech Independence day.  Enjoy entertainment, Czech food, children's performances and more.  There will be a raffle drawing for a Free trip for two to Prague.  The Staropramen party will begin at 7:30PM, at the Bohemian National Hall, located at 321 East 73rd Street, Manhattan, NY.  The festival and Party are Free to attend.  Click on the above link, for more information.

Union Square park and Big Onion Walking Tours, Presents the Crossroads Of New York Walking Tour, today and every Saturday at 2:00PM. The tour will explore the social and political history of the Union Square neighborhood. It will discuss the people, history architecture, Etc that have shaped the community.  The walking tour is Free and takes approximately 90 minutes.  The tour meets in Union Square Park, at the Lincoln Statue, along the 16th Street Transverse, Manhattan, NY.

Forest Park will host a 5K Run And Children's Field day, today beginning at 9:00AM.  At the Children's fair, there will be a 50 yard dash fun run, as well as such field games as the long jump, Bean Bag shot-put, and foam Javelin.  The cost of participating in the children's fair is a  $1.00 suggested donation. The 5K run begins at 10:00AM.  Click on the above link for details pertaining to the 5K race.  The events take place at Victory field, in Forest Park.  Forest Park is located at Myrtle Avenue, Union Turnpike, and Park Lanes, Queens, NY.

The Blessing Of The Animals festival service will take place today at 11:00AM, at The Cathedral Of Saint John The Divine.  There will be a procession of various types of animals into the church and animals big and small will receive a blessing.  Click on the above link to hear more about the service and to see the variety of animals that take part in this annual event.  The service will be followed by an outdoor fair at 1:00PM.  The theme of the fair is the celebration of creation, compassion and faithful stewardship of the earth.  It is Free to attend the service and the fair but donations will be accepted.  The Cathedral is located at 1047 Amsterdam Avenue, Manhattan, NY.

The Medieval Festival will be held today from 11:30PM-6:00PM in Fort tryon Park.  The Park will be transformed into a medieval town with performers in costume and authentic medieval music, dance, magic, minstrels, jugglers, mime, theater and jesters. There will also be food available for purchase. The festival will conclude with a joust between four knights on horseback.  The festival starts at Margaret Corbin Circle at 190th Street and Fort Washington Avenue, Manhattan, NY.

Prospect Park will hold a Raptors Fest, today from 12:00PM-3:00PM, at the Audubon center in the park.  Learn about the birds known as raptors.  Hawks, Falcons, owls and other birds of prey will be on hand for flight demonstrations.  This is a Free event.  To reach the Audubon Center, enter the park from the Ocean Avenue/ Lincoln road entrance,  (Audubon center is just inside this entrance) Brooklyn, NY

The 37th annual Atlantic Antic Street Festival will take place today,  from 12:00PM-6:00PM, along Atlantic Avenue, from Hicks Street to Fourth Avenue, Brooklyn, NY.  The festival will feature live music, food, vendors, face painting, pony rides and more.  The festival is Free to attend.

The 24th Annual Deepavali Festival, celebrating Indian culture, will take place today from 12:00PM-8:00PM, on Pier 16 and 17 at the South Street Seaport.  The festival will feature Classical and Bollywood Performances, vendors, food, gifts, raffles, children's activities and more.  The festival is Free to attend.  Pier 16 is located at Fulton and South Streets, Manhattan, NY

The New York Aquarium offers Admission by donation, today and every Friday, after 3:00PM.  Although there are suggested donation amounts, you can basically pay what you wish, to see the fish.  The Aquarium is open from 10:00AM-5:00PM, Monday-Friday and 10:00AM-5:30PM, weekends and holidays.  The New York Aquarium is located on Surf Avenue and West 8th Street, Brooklyn,  NY


Come to the Game Players Club For Adults, at the Hillcrest Library, today and every Friday at 2:00PM through 12/16/11.  There will be board games and card games with adult appeal such as Canasta, Monopoly, Scrabble, Rummy, Poker, Checkers and Chess.  This is a Free event.  The Hillcrest library is located at 187-05 Union Turnpike, Flushing, NY.


The Museum Of Modern Art offers Free Admission, today and every Friday from 4:00PM-8:00PM.  In addition, children 16 and under are Admitted Free to MOMA at all times. (the policy does not apply to children in groups)  The museum is open, Saturday, Sunday, Monday, Wednesday and Thursday (except for 1st Thursday of every month) from 10:30AM-5:30PM, Friday from 10:30AM-8:00PM and first Thursdays from 10:30AM-8:00PM. The Whitney Museum has a Pay What You Wish Policy, today and every Friday from 6:00PM-9:00PM.  In addition, the museum is always free for ages 18 and under.  There are Free gallery tours offered daily.  The museum is open Saturday, Sunday, Wednesday and Thursday from 11:00AM-6:00PM and Friday from 1:00PM-9:00PM.  It is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. The High Line will host a screening of the film, Strangers On A Train, directed by Alfred Hitchcock, tonight at 7:00PM.  The film is a classic murder mystery.  Following the feature film, the short film, All Aboard: Trains On Film, will be shown.  This 28 minute film pays homage to the history of trains in cinema and features scenes from over 100 films.  This event is Free and takes place at the 14th Street Passage, located on the High Line at 14th Street, Manhattan, NY.
