The Acquavella Galleries is currently displaying an exhibit by Georges Braque featuring 50 of his works.   Georges Braque is known as the co-founder of Cubism with Pablo Picasso.  The gallery is open Monday-Saturday from 10:00AM-5:00PM.  The exhibit is Free to view.  The Acquavella Gallery is located at 18 East 79th Street, (between Madison and fifth Avenues) Manhattan,

The Fresh Meadows Library, will present a Screening of the award winning film, Illegal, today at 2:00PM, followed by a discussion. The film is about a Russian woman and her 14 year old son, living in Belgium illegally.  She is arrested during a routine check by the police and placed in an immigration detention center.  Her son manages to escape.  She is determined to preserve her dignity and to find her son.  The film screening is Free.  The Fresh Meadows Library is located at 193-20 Horace Harding Expressway, Queens, NY.


The New York Public Library Of The Performing Arts Presents, Dr. Queen's Drag Academy: The Martin Worman Papers, tonight at 6:00PM.  The event which features Daniel Osman, includes a panel discussion and Performance.  It is a celebration of  the life of actor, playwright,  director, lyricist, female impersonator, academic and activist, Martin Worman.  The event is Free.  The New York Public Library Of The Performing Arts is located at the Dorothy and Lewis B Cullman Center, 40 Lincoln Center Plaza, Manhattan, NY.

 The Gagosian Gallery, located at 980 Madison Avenue, Manhattan, NY, offers Free Admission during regular hours of operation.  Currently there is an exhibition of paintings by Bob Dylan on display.  The Asia series is described as a visual reflection of his travels to Japan, China, Vietnam and Korea.  Also on display, are paintings and drawings, by artist, Jenny Saville.  For a further description of the exhibits, or any other information, click on the above link.  The gallery is open from Tuesday- Saturday, 10:00AM-6:00PM.








The American Folk Art Museum offers Free Admission today and every day, during regular hours of operation.  The museum is open Tuesday-Saturday from 12:00PM-7:30PM and Sunday from 12:00PM-6:00PM.  The Museum is closed on Mondays.  Today at 1:00PM, there will be a Free tour, featuring speaker, Lee Kogan.  The American Folk Art Museum is located at 2 Lincoln Square, (Columbus Avenue at 66th Street) Manhattan, NY.

 Take a walking tour of the Highline, tonight and every Tuesday through October at 6:30PM.  The tours are led by volunteers with knowledge of the history, horticulture, art and design of the High Line.  The tours are Free.  The tour meets at the Chelsea Market passage, on the High Line, near West 16th Street, Manhattan, NY.


 Wednesday 10/19/11


 The Victor Hanson Recreation Center will host a Film Screening from the Emmy Award Winning PBS Series, Independent Lens, today at 10:00AM.  The film, "Deaf Jam", by Judy Lieff, is about a deaf teen who discovers the power of American Sign Language Poetry and prepares to be one of the first deaf poets to compete in a youth Slam.  The film screening is Free.  The Victor Hanson Recreation Center is located in Rochdale Park, at 133-39 Guy Brewer Boulevard, Queens, NY.


 The Society Of Illustrators offers Free Admission to the museum during regular operating hours, with the exception of openings, special events, and classes.  There are only four days left to see the exhibit, Rolling Stone And The Art Of The Record Review. The exhibit consists of over 80 original illustrations that were commissioned for the Rolling Stone Magazine, record review column.  The exhibit closes on 10/22/11.  The Ted Lewin Light Show is another exhibit currently on display at the museum.  The illustrations in this exhibit capture various types of lighting, from neon lights to sunlight and firelight.  The exhibit closes on 10/29/11.  Making Faces, an exhibit featuring portrait illustrations, will be on display through 11/23/11.  Coming to the museum on 10/26/11, is the exhibit The Original Art 2011,  which celebrates the art of Children's Book Illustration.  In addition, the museum has a Permanent Exhibit, consisting of almost 2000 works by some of the greatest names in American Illustration.  The Society Of Illustrators is open on Tuesdays from 10:00AM-8:00PM, Wednesdays -Fridays from 10:00AM-5:00PM and Saturday from 12:00PM-4:00PM.  The Society Of Illustrators is located at 128 East 63rd Street, (between Park and Lexington Avenues), Manhattan, NY.






Enjoy improv, at the Peoples Improv Theater, today and every Wednesday from 6:00PM-11:00PM.  Different shows begin every hour and each show is Free.  The shows take place in the Striker Theater, at PIT, located at 123 East 24th Street, (between Park and Lexington Avenues) Brooklyn, NY.

There will be Live Music at the West 14th Street Apple Store, tonight from 7:00PM-8:30PM, with performances from three different musical acts.  Parlor Mob, will be at the store playing tracks from their new album, "Dogs".  Also at the store will be musicians, Icon For Hire, as well as the band, Still Corners, performing tracks from their new album, "Creatures Of An Hour".  The Performances are Free.  The store is located at 401 West 14th Street, Manhattan, NY.

Nell Casey, editor of the soon to be released book, The Journals Of Spalding Gray, will be giving a talk titled, Inside The Journals Of Spalding Gray, tonight at 8:00PM, at The New School.  Spalding Gray was a brilliant artist, famous for his riveting monologues, such as Swimming To Cambodia and Monster In A Box.  The book is based on the diaries of Spalding Gray, giving insight into the artist, who ended his life in 2004.  The event is Free and takes place at Wollman Hall, located at 65 West 11th Street, 5th Floor, Manhattan, NY.
