In the beginning or/my very first blog

This is my first attempt at blogging and I am looking forward to spreading the word about all the interesting and fun events in and around NYC.  There are numerous adventures to enjoy and I would like to bring you a few each week.
The Celebrate Brooklyn  concerts located at the prospect park bandshell, at prospect park west and 9th street, are in full swing.  On Thursday, June 16, 2011 at 7:00pm, the freedom rides project produced by Hal Willner and featuring among others, Rosanne Cash, Toshi Reagon and Steve Bernstein will be presented.  The show features music of the civil rights movement and celebrates the 50th anniversary of the freedom rides.  The performance is free but there is a $3.00 suggested donation.
On Friday, June 17 at 9:30pm, Coney Island Friday Night Fireworks Display begins.  The fireworks can be best viewed along the beach and boardwalk.  The free fireworks show will continue every Friday night at 9:30pm throughout the summer.
In addition enjoy Karaoke On The Boardwalk in front of Denos Wonder Wheel before and after the fireworks, starting at 7:00pm and continuing until 11:pm.
While we are on the subject of coney island, the annualMermaid Parade is scheduled to take place on June 18 at 2:00pm.  Its a wild and fun filled event featuring colorful costumes of mermaids and various other sea creatures, antique cars and marching bands.  Getting through the crowds that show up for the parade can be daunting but if you can get a good viewing spot, it is well worth it.  The parade route starts at west 21 street and surf avenue and proceeds down surf avenue towards west 10th street.
Also on June 18,The Brooklyn Cyclones  play their first home game of the season against the Staten Island Yankees at 6:30pm at MCU park, located at 1904 surf avenue, Brooklyn NY.  The first 3,000 fans to arrive for the game will receive a schedule magnet.  the game will be followed by fireworks.
Thats all for now.  More to come.
