Bring your dog to Prospect Park today and the first Saturday of Every month, (except holidays) from 7:00AM-9:00PM, for the Coffee Bark.  Meet and mingle with other dog owners.  Free Goodies will be given to dogs and their owners.  Information will also be given to dog owners regarding off-leash activities and issues.  The event is Free and meets in the meadow at the Picnic house.  Enter the park at 3rd Street and Prospect Park West, Brooklyn, NY.

Westerleigh Park will host the 6th Annual Soap Box Derby, today from 10:00AM-3:00PM.  This is a Free event for children to participate in.  To Participate, the car you've built must have brakes and all participants must wear helmets.  The race will be down Springfield Avenue, Staten Island, NY.  Trophies will be awarded in various categories.  Registration will start at 10:00AM and races will begin at 11:00AM.  In addition to the races, there will be a collection of antique cars on display.  Free parking is available.  Westerleigh Park is located at Willard, Springfield, Main and Neal Dow Avenues, Staten Island, NY.

Take a Page Avenue Beach Tour today,  from 12:00PM-2:00PM, with naturalists from the Staten Island organization, Protectors Of Pine Oak Woods.  The walk will begin with a look at the local geology of the area.  A variety of  small wildlife such as snails, crabs, clams, oysters worms and small fish will probably be viewed.  The walk will be muddy so appropriate clothing is advised.  The Tour meets at the parking lot at Page Avenue, below Hylan Boulevard.  For more information, click on the above link and call the number listed.

The tour will explore the social and political history of the Union Square neighborhood. Forest Park will host a 5K Run And Children's Field day, today beginning at 9:00AM.  At the Children's fair, there will be a 50 yard dash fun run, as well as such field games as the long jump, Bean Bag shot-put, and foam Javelin.  The cost of participating in the children's fair is a  $1.00 suggested donation. The 5K run begins at 10:00AM.  Click on the above link for details pertaining to the 5K race.  The events take place at Victory field, in Forest Park.  Forest Park is located at Myrtle Avenue, Union Turnpike, and Park Lanes, Queens, NY.

The Medieval Festival will be held today from 11:30PM-6:00PM in Fort tryon Park.  The Park will be transformed into a medieval town with performers in costume and authentic medieval music, dance, magic, minstrels, jugglers, mime, theater and jesters. There will also be food available for purchase. The New York Aquarium offers Admission by donation, today and every Friday, after 3:00PM.  Although there are suggested donation amounts, you can basically pay what you wish, to see the fish.  The Aquarium is open from 10:00AM-5:00PM, Monday-Friday and 10:00AM-5:30PM, weekends and holidays.  The New York Aquarium is located on Surf Avenue and West 8th Street, Brooklyn,  NY

The Brooklyn Book Festival takes Place today from 10:00AM-6:00PM, in Brooklyn Borough Hall and Plaza, at 209 Joralemon Street, Brooklyn, NY.  Senator Joseph Lieberman will be at the festival as well as many acclaimed writers.  There will be numerous events that include, book discussions, readings of literary work and lectures.  All events are Free but require tickets.  Tickets will be distributed an hour prior to the event, at festival information booths on the plaza.  There will also be a children's area and for older children, a youth stoop.  In addition, there will be numerous book vendors.  For information on the various events, directions, or any other information, click the above link.

The 85th Annual Feast Of San Gennaro continues today, from 11:30AM-11:00PM, along Mulberry Street, between Canal and Hudson Streets and along Grand and Hester Streets, between Mott and Baxter Streets, Manhattan, NY.  Today from 2:00PM-4:00PM, there will be a gala birthday celebration, of the 85th birthday of the Feast Of San Gennaro.  There will be a performance of traditional Italian music, and a 6' cake weighing 2,000 pounds, made by Ferrara's Bakery, will be on display.  Slices of the cake will be served to the public on a first- come, first-served basis.  Married couples who met at the feast are invited to attend the birthday celebration and talk about what the feast has meant to them.  From 7:00PM-10:00PM, Joe Causi of WCBS, 101.1, will host his radio show from the feast.  There will be Guest performers and celebrity interviews.  The Saint Gennaro Feast and the above mentioned  events of the feast are Free.


The 54th German-American Steuben Parade Of New York, will take place today at 11:30AM, along 5th Avenue, between 67th and 86th Streets, Manhattan, NY.  German Olympic figure skater, Norbert Schramm will take part in the parade, as well as Aarne Bielefeldt of  IFC reality show, Whisker Wars.  There will be marching bands, floats, entertainment and more.  The parade is Free to view.  There is also Grandstand Seating for $10.00.  The Grandstand is located at 78th Street and 5th Avenue and tickets can be purchased there, if they are still available.

The 85th Annual Feast Of San Gennaro begins today, in Little Italy and continues through 9/25/11.  The hours of the feast are from 11:30AM-11:00PM.  The feast will take place along Mulberry Street, between Canal and Hudson Streets.  From east to west, the festival take place on Grand Street, between Mott and Baxter Streets and Hester Street, between Mott and Baxter Streets.  The Feast is Free to attend.  It will feature entertainment, food, religious events, processions, parades, various vendors and more.  Today from 2:00PM-3:00PM, the 10th annual Cannoli Eating Competition will take place, at the northwest corner of Grand and Mott Streets.  From 6:00PM-7:00PM, the Blessing Of The Stands will take place.  Parish Priests from Most Precious Blood Church will walk along the feast, blessing all the restaurants, cafes, vendors, shops Etc, so that they will have a successful feast.  From 7:00PM-9:00PM, there will be performances by Johnny Mandolin and friends with Debby Broadway and Jorge Buccio.  Also, Mike Sergio will Perform a Frank Sinatra Tribute.
