How about an interesting DayTrip Outside Of The City But Easy Enough To Access With Or Without A Car ?  Pick your own Peaches, Nectarines and Blackberries at Fishkill Farms.  The farm is open Daily from 10:00AM-6:00PM.  Click on the above link, to see what crops are ready to be picked.  The above mentioned fruits are scheduled for mid August, but it is always best to call ahead and make sure.  Prices are not listed on the web site but you can call for that information as well. The telephone number of the farm is 845-897-4377.  The address of Fishkill Farms is, 9 Fishkill Farm Road, Hopewell Junction,  NY.  To get to the farm without a car, take the Metro North Hudson line to Beacon Station and then take a 10 minute taxi ride.  Here are come taxi services in the area which can be called.   Fishkill Taxi Service-Tel #  845- 896-8294 , West Side Taxi OF Beacon- Tel # 845-831-7373 and ClearPort Limo and Taxi Tel # 845-440-5001.  ClearPort Limo and Taxi was by far the least expensive choice of the above mentioned Cabs. They charge $12.00 each way, so from a price standpoint, I would have to recommend ClearPort over the other two companies.  I am told also, that there will be cabs waiting outside the station when the train pulls in, so you might want to check out their prices first.   Keep in mind that, a DayTrip even to a low-cost type activity is going to be more expensive than a low-cost activity in the city. (especially without a car)  Getting to Fishkill Farms by Car will be easier and cheaper even factoring in gas and tolls.  (but what the heck, if you don't have a car, look it it as an adventure)  To get to Fishkill Farms by car, Click on the above link for very detailed directions or call for directions.
