The third Annual Washington Heights Children And Young People's Film Festival, continues today, with film screenings from 11:00AM-7:00PM.  Click on the above link, for the schedule.  The film festival is Free for Children and Families.  The films will be shown at Coliseum Cinemas, at 701 West 181st Street, (Broadway) Manhattan, NY


The Conference House is open for guided tours, today and every Friday-Sunday from 1:00PM-4:00PM, through 12/15/11.  It is the site of the only attempted peace conference during the Revolutionary War.  The house is filled with interesting artifacts and lots of history.  Conference House Park, where the building is located, is at the southernmost point of NYC and State.  The tour is $3.00 for Adults and $2.00 for Children.  There is parking available in the visitors center lot, at the end of Hylan Boulevard.  The Conference House is located at 298 Satterlee Street, Staten Island, NY.  Click on the above link for directions and map.


Grow NYC will host a Halloween Costume Swap, as well as other 
Halloween activities, today from 3:00PM-6:00PM, at Build It Green, in Gowanus.  For the costume swap, donate a clean, gently used or new costume.  Other activities will include, games and family friendly Halloween movies.  The event is Free.  Build It Green is located at 69 9th Street, Brooklyn, NY.


Halloween Is Happening, today at Trinity Church.  From 4:00PM-7:00PM, the Ghouls, Games, Graves And Happy Hour will be held.  There will be games, face painting, crafts and ghost stories in the North ChurchYard.  In the South Churchyard, there will be music, dancing and a Haunted Hamilton cocktail hour, with non alcoholic beverages also available.  From 7:00PM-10:00PM, the silent film, Metropolis will be shown in Trinity Church with live organ accompaniment, by Peter Krasinski.  Both events are Free.  Donations are accepted.  Trinity Church is located on Broadway at Wall Street, Manhattan, NY.


There will be a Spooktacular event, held at Flushing Meadows Corona Park, tonight from 5:00PM-8:30PM.  The evening will feature, music, games, crafts, ghost stories, a haunted house and a pumpkin patch.  The event is Free and takes place at the Al Oerter recreation center, at 131-40 Fowler Avenue, Queens, NY.

The Big NYC Halloween Benefit, takes place tonight from 7:00PM-11:00PM, at Build It Green, located at 69 9th Street, Brooklyn NY.  The Party will feature, music by Vaz, DJ Melky and DJ Duo.  It will also feature, a Performance of Dome Theater's, The Mummy, Halloween movies, ping-pong and a costume contest.  Tickets start at  only $10.00.  For this price, guests receive light appetizers and one drink ticket.  There are other levels of ticket pricing, which include food and other items (discounts Etc) but they get increasingly pricey.  Click on the above link for more

The Puppetry Arts Haunted Halloween Festival will take place today, from 11:00AM-4:00PM, at the first street recreation center of P.S 372.  There will be musical Performances, a haunted house, costume contests, raffles and more.   The first 200 kids will get a trick or treat bag, full of prizes. Admission is Free.  It is an indoor event and takes place rain or shine.  The first Street recreation center of P.S 372 is located at 1st Street, between 3rd and 4th Avenue, Brooklyn, NY.

 The Canine Costume Carnival, will be held today from 11:00AM-2:00PM, at Rockaway Freeway Beach.  There will be music, games and costume prizes for the most creative costumes, in both large and small dog categories.  In addition, there will be treat bags for the first 50 people to arrive.  North Shore Animal League will be at the event with adorable animals for adoption and Free/Low Cost Spaying and Neutering, by the ASPCA.  The event is Free, and takes place on Beach Channel Drive, between Beach 108th Street and Regina Avenue, Rockaway, NY.

The Halloween Haunted Walk And Carnival,  takes place today from 12:00PM-3:00PM, at the Nethermead, in Prospect Park.  The walk features zombies, wolf men, headless horseman, good and bad witches, Etc.  It is appropriate for young children accompanied by parents/guardian or older siblings.  The carnival will feature games and treats.  The event is Free and begins at prospect park Southwest and 16th Street, Brooklyn, NY.

The Highland Park Fall Harvest Festival And Pirate Day, is scheduled to take place today, from 12:00PM-3:00PM.  There will be horse and carriage rides, a pirate show, crafts, games, a treasure hunt and more.   The event is Free and takes place at Elton Street and Jamaica Avenue, in Highland Park, Queens, NY

Fraunces Tavern Museum, Presents a special Halloween event, Spirits Of 1776, tonight at 5:30PM.  The results of an investigation into the paranormal, which took place in Sept of 2010, when two researchers spent the night at Fraunces Tavern, are revealed.  Seasonal refreshments will be served. Tickets are $10.00.  Doors open at 5:15PM.  Fraunces Tavern is located at 54 Pearl Street, Manhattan, NY.

Explore Hallett & The Pond, today from 12:30PM-1:30PM, in Central Park.   Learn the history of the park's smallest woodland area and enjoy its scenic beauty.  The tour is Free but space is limited in the Hallett Nature Sanctuary, so arrive early.  Only the first 20 people to sign up will be able to participate in the tour.  The tour is not recommended for people with disabilities, due to hilly areas and other obstacles.  The tour meets in front of the Jose Marti statue, at 6th avenue and Central park South, Manhattan, NY.

 The Museum Of The Moving Image offers Free Admission, today and every Friday from 4:00PM-8:00PM.  Admission is usually, $12.00 for Adults, $9.00 for Students and Seniors and $6.00 for Children.  The museum is open from Tuesdays - Thursdays from 10:30AM-5:00PM, Fridays, 10:30AM-8:00PM and Saturday and Sunday, 10:30AM-7:00PM.  This is a great interactive museum for movie memorabilia and learning about how some of your favorite films were made.  It should be lots of fun for both adults and children.  The Museum Of The Moving Image is located at 36-01 35th Avenue, Astoria, NY.

The Fresh Meadows Library, will present a Screening of the award winning film, Illegal, today at 2:00PM, followed by a discussion. The film is about a Russian woman and her 14 year old son, living in Belgium illegally.  She is arrested during a routine check by the police and placed in an immigration detention center.  Her son manages to escape.  She is determined to preserve her dignity and to find her son.  The film screening is Free.  The Fresh Meadows Library is located at 193-20 Horace Harding Expressway, Queens, NY.

 The Victor Hanson Recreation Center will host a Film Screening from the Emmy Award Winning PBS Series, Independent Lens, today at 10:00AM.  The film, "Deaf Jam", by Judy Lieff, is about a deaf teen who discovers the power of American Sign Language Poetry and prepares to be one of the first deaf poets to compete in a youth Slam.  The film screening is Free.  The Victor Hanson Recreation Center is located in Rochdale Park, at 133-39 Guy Brewer Boulevard, Queens, NY.


 The Society Of Illustrators offers Free Admission to the museum during regular operating hours, with the exception of openings, special events, and classes.  There are only four days left to see the exhibit, Rolling Stone And The Art Of The Record Review. The exhibit consists of over 80 original illustrations that were commissioned for the Rolling Stone Magazine, record review column.  The exhibit closes on 10/22/11.  The Ted Lewin Light Show is another exhibit currently on display at the museum.  The illustrations in this exhibit capture various types of lighting, from neon lights to sunlight and firelight.  The exhibit closes on 10/29/11.  Making Faces, an exhibit featuring portrait illustrations, will be on display through 11/23/11.  Coming to the museum on 10/26/11, is the exhibit The Original Art 2011,  which celebrates the art of Children's Book Illustration.  In addition, the museum has a Permanent Exhibit, consisting of almost 2000 works by some of the greatest names in American Illustration.  The Society Of Illustrators is open on Tuesdays from 10:00AM-8:00PM, Wednesdays -Fridays from 10:00AM-5:00PM and Saturday from 12:00PM-4:00PM.  The Society Of Illustrators is located at 128 East 63rd Street, (between Park and Lexington Avenues), Manhattan, NY.

Nell Casey, editor of the soon to be released book, The Journals Of Spalding Gray, will be giving a talk titled, Inside The Journals Of Spalding Gray, tonight at 8:00PM, at The New School.  Spalding Gray was a brilliant artist, famous for his riveting monologues, such as Swimming To Cambodia and Monster In A Box.  The book is based on the diaries of Spalding Gray, giving insight into the artist, who ended his life in 2004.  The event is Free and takes place at Wollman Hall, located at 65 West 11th Street, 5th Floor, Manhattan, NY.
